A Few Fine Points Of The Third Stimulus Check
For the third stimulus check, anyone with a Social Security number can receive the stimulus check for themselves and their family members. This is good info for mixed-immigration status families and a change from the last bill.
Its important to note that if you are incarcerated, you can still receive your check. And if you lost work or wages in 2020, you could get a higher amount than you did with the first or second stimulus checks.
And if you normally arent required to file taxes, either because of your income level or for other reasons, you are probably eligible for a stimulus payment.
Reminder: File your taxes by April 15!

Will It Take Long To Get Your Third Stimulus Payment After You File Your Rrc
The tax return process for 2020 started on February 2. The deadline has since been extended to May 17. The IRS is now focused on sending out the stimulus payments that the recipients would be hopeful of receiving without any further delay.
If you have filed for your Recovery Rebate Credit along with your present returns, you can look up your status. But we arent clear about the revised timeline set by the IRS for processing the returns submitted after the middle of March.
The Irs Is Sending Out The Third Stimulus Payments At A Swift Clip With 127 Million So Far With Millions More To Go Why Might You Still Be Waiting
Most people dont need to do anything but wait for their third stimulus payment to show up in their bank account or in the mail. The Internal Revenue Service is using the information that the agency has on file to distribute the $1,400 direct payments to Americans. But there in may lie the crux of the problem.
For the first round of payments the IRS used taxpayers 2018 or 2019 tax returns to check if a taxpayer was eligible for a stimulus payment. For individuals who receive Social Security benefits who dont have to file a tax return, the Social Security Administration sent files to the IRS so that the agency could get those recipients their payments. The IRS also provided a Non-Filers tool on its website so that others that dont normally file could get their payments, as well for people to update information on dependents that was missing for SS beneficiaries.

Looking Out For Direct Payments In The Mail
Payment sent through the mail will come in the form of either a paper check or a debit card, the latter of which is intended to speed up the delivery to people. As the IRS noted, the form of payment may differ from the previous two rounds of stimulus checks.
The debit card, known as the Economic Impact Payment Card, will have the Visa name on the front and MetaBank, N.A. on the back. It will come in a white envelope with the U.S. Department of the Treasury seal prominently displayed. More information can be found at EIPcard.com.
What Should I Do If I Live Abroad Or In A Us Territory And Didn’t Receive The First Or Second Check
If you meet all of the eligibility requirements but did not receive your first payment under the CARES Act, you can claim that money on your 2020 tax return now in the form of a Recovery Rebate Credit from the IRS.
In certain cases — like if you received a letter from the IRS confirming that your payment was sent, but never actually got the money — you may need to contact the IRS to trace the missing payment.
How Can I Find The Bank Information Where My Stimulus Is Being Sent
The account number and routing number where your tax refund are being direct deposited can be found on the printable .pdf version of your tax return.
The last four digits of the bank account being used for direct deposit can be found in your TaxSlayer account under Transaction History.
To find the last four digits of your bank account on file:
Log in to your TaxSlayer account > My Account > Transaction History
If theres no bank information on my transaction history but on my copy of my taxes theres some bank info what does that mean? Does the IRS have my bank information to send my stimulus?
If you paid your filing fees out of your tax refund and got the rest of your refund by direct deposit, the account number where your funds were deposited is on the printed copy of your tax return. This is the account information the IRS has on file, and your stimulus payment will be sent to this same account.
What You Should Do If Your Income Increased In 2020 Vs 2019
Undoubtedly, a whole separate camp of Americans saw their incomes rise in 2020 versus 2019, meaning they would no longer be considered eligible for a stimulus check if they were to submit their return today.
You could still wait to file your tax return and claim a stimulus check. The IRS wouldnt attempt to recoup that payment, and it also shouldnt open you up to any penalties or fines, according to the current text of the bill. Economic Impact Payments also arent considered taxable income.
But beware: You dont want to risk incurring late fees by waiting so long that you submit your tax return past the April 15 deadline .

Demand For A Fourth Stimulus Check Justified Feel Many Lawmakers
Many Democratic lawmakers have written to the President demanding more stimulus checks. They said that people continue to struggle to put food on the table. The third stimulus check money has dried out in most households within a couple of months, and the pandemic has its grips on the economy still.
Is My Stimulus Payment Being Mailed Or Sent Direct Deposit
The IRS will send payments by direct deposit, paper check, and prepaid debit cards. They will likely deliver your third stimulus the same way you received the previous stimulus or your tax refund.
To ensure you receive the stimulus payment by direct deposit, file your 2020 tax return and choose direct deposit for your refund delivery method. If youve received your refund by direct deposit in prior years, filing your 2020 return now gives you the opportunity to verify your bank account information .
When the second stimulus checks were delivered, an IRS error caused some payments to be returned. This issue has been resolved and will not impact how your third stimulus is delivered.

How Do You Track Your Payments
You can check the status of your stimulus payment on IRS.gov using the Get My Payment tool. If you receive the notice Payment Status Not Available, it indicates one of the following situations:
- The IRS does not have enough information
- Your payment has not been processed yet
- Youre not eligible for a payment
If you believe you are eligible for a payment, check the Get My Payment tool over the coming weeks, as the IRS continues to process payments.
How Much Money Will I Get From The Third Stimulus Check
Most households that received an earlier stimulus check will get one again, but the amounts are different this time. The baseline:
- $1,400 to each adult
- $1,400 to each dependent meaning, anyone claimed on a tax return, including older adults, disabled adults, and child dependents of any age
- For example, a family of four could potentially receive $5,600
The dependent eligibility is different from the second stimulus check, but there are a lot of caveats to be aware of. Its important to read through the information on the IRS website or this CNN article. A few important highlights:
- Dependents dont receive their own stimulus checks funds are sent to the household
- If you share custody of a dependent, both you and the other parent could get stimulus checks, depending on how you file your taxes
- You are still eligible to receive a stimulus check if you owe child support
- If you have more or fewer dependents since the last time you filed taxes for instance, a new child was born into your family you should update your number of dependents by filing your 2020 tax return
Payments will be sent out in a few weeks via direct deposit, as physical checks, or via Economic Impact Payment debit cards.
Tip: Signing up for direct deposit with the IRS could help you get your refund even faster than waiting for a check or Economic Impact Payment debit card to arrive in the mail.

You Didn’t File A 2019 Or 2020 Tax Return
Generally, the IRS will look at your 2019 or 2020 tax return to see if you’re eligible for a third stimulus check and, if so, to determine the amount of your check. If you didn’t file a 2019 or 2020 return , then the IRS is stuck. It doesn’t have the information it needs to send you a payment readily available.
For some people, the IRS got the necessary information from another federal agency that is paying you benefits . After it got the information, the IRS was able to start sending payments to those beneficiaries but waiting to get the data caused a delay. For example, the IRS just recently started sending payments to millions of federal beneficiaries.
If the IRS isn’t able to get the information needed to process your payment , then you’ll have to claim the amount you’re entitled to as a Recovery Rebate credit on your 2021 tax return. But there’s an easy way to avoid this simply file a 2020 tax return, even if you don’t have to.
There’s still plenty of time to file a 2020 return. The IRS pushed back this year’s return filing deadline from April 15 to May 17, 2021, so you have an additional month to get your 2020 return to the IRS. The tax agency has until the end of the year to send out third-round stimulus payments, so you can still get a check if you haven’t filed yet it will just take longer for you to get it.

Federal Benefit Payments Automatic For Most
The IRS noted that most people who are receiving federal benefits and are eligible for a stimulus check dont have to do anything to receive their economic payments, which will be delivered automatically.
Beneficiaries who dont usually file taxes many need to file a 2020 tax return to give the IRS their information to receive stimulus checks for dependents, however. Those people who need to file taxes should do so as soon as possible, the IRS says.
Stimulus checks have already been going out to those federal beneficiaries who file taxes regularly.

What’s Going On With Direct Express
Many people who receive federal benefits get monthly payments on existing prepaid debit cards through Direct Express.
But the Direct Express site only noted on March 23: “According to the IRS, updates on the timing of Economic Impact Payments for federal beneficiaries are expected soon. This includes information for Direct Express cardholders who didnt file a tax return in 2019 or 2020. Updates will be posted on IRS.gov as soon as possible.”
The Direct Express program provides 4.5 million Americans the majority of whom do not have a bank account with a prepaid debit card to receive their monthly Social Security or veterans benefit payments. The expectation is that the IRS would put those stimulus payments automatically on existing Direct Express cards.
The IRS is rolling out the stimulus payments in batches including by direct deposit, as well as mailing paper checks and plastic prepaid debit cards.
Many people who received their money already had filed tax returns, as they made enough money to be required to file a return.
The second batch of payments includes about 17 million direct deposit payments, which were officially available Wednesday, that totaled more than $38 billion.
Those bringing home better than average paychecks won’t get money this time around, though.
For example, a married couple filing a joint return won’t receive the third payment if their adjusted gross income exceeds $160,000.
What To Do If You Cant Find Your Stimulus Check
If your IRS online account shows that you should have received a stimulus payment, but you didnt get it, theres a chance it could have been lost in the mail. Or you might have thrown away the prepaid debit card you received.
If you lost your stimulus check or suspect it was stolen, you can request the IRS trace your payment. If the IRS determines your check hasnt been cashed, it will issue a credit to your account. It cant reissue your payment, but you can claim the payment on your 2021 tax return using the Recovery Rebate Tax Credit worksheet.
If a trace is initiated and the IRS determines that the check wasnt cashed, the IRS will credit your account for that payment. However, the IRS cant reissue your payment. Instead, you will need to claim the 2021 Recovery Rebate Credit on your 2021 tax return if eligible.
If you lost your EIP card, a prepaid debit card on which some individuals received their stimulus payment, contact card issuer MetaBank to request a replacement.
